In the early morning hours of July 31, 2024, the life of 23-year-old Marcus Leon Coleman was tragically cut short in Rayne, Louisiana. Known to his loved ones as 'Bean,' the young man was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach in the 1000 block of Noon Street around 5:30 a.m. Emergency services arrived at the scene and he was quickly airlifted to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts to save him, Marcus Coleman was pronounced dead from his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting quickly identified a suspect, Andre Sagal. The Rayne Police Department issued a warrant for his arrest in connection with the fatal shooting, which authorities believe was motivated by a dispute over a romantic interest. For a short time, Sagal remained at large, and law enforcement sought help from the public to locate him.
The search for the alleged perpetrator came to an end when Andre Sagal turned himself in to the authorities. Following his surrender, he was taken into custody. The community was left to mourn the loss of Marcus Coleman, a young father of three with another child on the way. His family and friends remembered him as a beloved brother and son, and his death has been registered as a loss to gun violence.
