On a summer evening in Rayne, Louisiana, the life of 22-year-old Jonathan Davone Dixon was tragically cut short. On July 17, 2021, Dixon was fatally shot at the King City Grocery Store located in the 200 block of West Jeff Davis Avenue. The incident prompted an extensive investigation by the Rayne Police Department, leading to a series of arrests in the months that followed.
The community was left seeking answers as law enforcement worked to piece together the events of that fatal night.
The investigation into Dixon's murder led to the identification and apprehension of multiple suspects. The first arrest was that of 26-year-old Edward Dontreal Nickson of Rayne. Subsequently, authorities took 26-year-old Kaylor Sinegal of Lafayette into custody for his alleged involvement. The third man arrested was 18-year-old Daylan Richard, who was apprehended after a two-hour standoff at an Airbnb residence. Richard was booked on a charge of Second Degree Murder.
As the investigation progressed, more individuals were implicated in connection with the homicide. Crystal Fontenot became the fourth person arrested after being indicted by an Acadia Parish Grand Jury for her alleged role in the events surrounding Dixon's death. The fifth and final announced arrest was that of 17-year-old Darion Mouton. He was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for Attempted Second-Degree Murder. Mouton was indicted by an Acadia Parish Grand Jury, and his case was moved to adult court.
