In the early evening of Tuesday, January 17, 2017, the West Philadelphia neighborhood was shattered by gunfire. Responding to a call at approximately 6:24 p.m., Philadelphia Police officers discovered 38-year-old Tarik Chapman lying unresponsive in the street on the 5100 block of Irving Street. Chapman, a Black male from the 5500 block of Pemberton Street, had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Officers rushed him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was admitted in critical
condition. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Tarik Chapman succumbed to his injuries the following day, on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at 6:56 p.m.
As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting death of Tarik Chapman. The Philadelphia Police Department's Homicide Unit continues to investigate the case, which remains open. Authorities have encouraged anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward to assist in bringing those responsible to justice.
