On October 23, 2023, at approximately 3:30 p.m., deputies from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a reported shooting at a trailer off Highway 27 in Carlyss, Louisiana. Upon arrival, they discovered two victims with gunshot wounds: 39-year-old Cole A. Sandifer, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and 43-year-old Brittany A. Prather, who was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
