LaCory Demond Johnson Sr., a 43-year-old Black male, was a lifelong resident of New Orleans, known to his loved ones as "Coe.". A father of four, with two bonus children, he was described as a peacemaker with an incredible personality and spirit. He was a loving and caring father and a devoted son who never missed a day to tell his mother he loved her.
Johnson attended Rosenwald Elementary School and Walker High School and worked for various construction companies before being employed with Bunny Bread Flowers Foods.
The holiday season of 2023 was shattered by violence for the Johnson family. On Saturday, December 23, 2023, LaCory Demond Johnson Sr. was fatally shot in the Old Aurora neighborhood of Algiers. His life was cut short by an act of gun violence, a fact later confirmed by the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office, which identified him as one of two men killed in separate shootings over the Christmas weekend.
In the wake of his death, family and friends gathered to celebrate his life and mourn his passing. His funeral service was held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Gentilly Baptist Church, followed by a burial at Resthaven Memorial Park. He was remembered as a man who was loved by everyone he met. As of now, details regarding any arrests, suspects, or motives in the shooting death of LaCory Demond Johnson Sr. have not been publicly released as the investigation by the New Orleans Police Department remains ongoing.
