George D. Carter III, a 15-year-old African American male, was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head on October 21, 2014, in the Desire neighborhood of New Orleans. His body was discovered on a desolate stretch of Piety Street. George was a bright and promising young activist who had been involved with the organization Kids Rethink New Orleans Schools since he was seven years old. He was known for his advocacy for better education and healthier food in the city's school system.
