In the spring of 2023, the life of a young New Orleans man, known affectionately to friends and family as 'Tank,' was tragically cut short. August Wayne Miller, a 21-year-old male, was a native and resident of the city he called home. His life, however, came to a violent end on the evening of Saturday, March 25, 2023, when he was fatally shot in the 7th Ward.
August was a recent graduate of George Washington Carver Senior High School, class of 2021, where he had been an active and
enthusiastic member of the school community. He was a familiar face on the football field as part of the Carver Ram football team, a competitor on the track team, and a musician in the marching band. His passion for sports continued after graduation as he pursued boxing at the Running Bear Boxing Ring. Those who knew him described him as a beloved son and a cherished brother.
The circumstances surrounding August Miller's death remain shrouded in mystery, as there have been no public announcements from the New Orleans Police Department regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in his case. The investigation into his murder is ongoing, leaving his family and community awaiting answers and justice for a life taken too soon. As of now, his case is one of many unsolved homicides that continue to trouble the city.
