The incident that cut short the young man's life transpired at a party in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana. Howard, a resident of New Roads, was with three other individuals in a vehicle when an altercation escalated into gunfire.
The shooting resulted in Howard's death and injuries to the three other occupants of the vehicle.

In the aftermath of the shooting, a juvenile was arrested in connection with the violence. The young suspect ultimately pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree murder. Following the plea, the individual was sentenced to juvenile life imprisonment, a term that extends until the age of 21.
