In the late hours of a Sunday evening in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a violent encounter on February 7, 2021, set in motion a chain of events that would ultimately claim the life of Warren West. That night, the 31-year-old Black / African American man was the victim of a shooting during an attempted armed robbery. The exact location of the attack remains a mystery, as West, wounded, managed to make his way to a gas station on Florida Boulevard to call for help.
When police arrived, West
could only tell them he had been shot somewhere downtown. He was unable to provide a specific location or any description of his assailant. The lack of a defined crime scene and a suspect description immediately hampered the investigation, leaving authorities with very few leads to follow. In the days and years that followed, the case grew cold, with no suspects identified and no arrests made in connection with the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing, but the circumstances surrounding the incident have made it difficult for law enforcement to make any headway.
For more than three years, Warren West lived with the consequences of that violent night. However, the injuries he sustained proved to be insurmountable. On Monday, June 17, 2024, at the age of 35, Warren West died from complications arising from the gunshot wound he received in 2021. His death transformed the cold case from an armed robbery and assault to a homicide investigation, renewing the call for any information that might lead to the apprehension of the person responsible for the act of violence that ultimately took his life years later. Despite the passage of time, authorities have not released any information about potential suspects, and no arrests have been announced.
