On December 16, 2024, at approximately 10:00 PM, the sound of gunfire pierced the night on Merganzer Avenue. The Baton Rouge Police Department was alerted to the shooting by a ShotSpotter activation, a system designed to detect and locate gunfire.
Responding officers canvassed the area near the intersection of Merganzer Avenue and Woodpecker Street, where they discovered Davis in a grassy area. He was suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services were called to the scene and attempted life-saving measures, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he succumbed to them at the scene.
