On February 9, 2024, 60-year-old Tyronne McKinnis of New Orleans, Louisiana, was found deceased. Initially, the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) classified the case as an "unclassified death."

Subsequent investigations revealed that McKinnis had been the victim of a prolonged assault. Surveillance footage showed 19-year-old Joel Warren sexually and physically assaulting McKinnis for three hours, leading to his death.
