In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Lafayette, Louisiana, the life of 29-year-old Elzy Cyprian was tragically cut short. On March 24, 2024, Cyprian, a resident of Carencro, was shot and killed on Harrison Drive. The incident prompted an investigation by the Lafayette Police Department, which quickly led to the identification and arrest of a suspect.
Responding to the shooting, law enforcement officials began piecing together the events that led to the fatal encounter.
Their investigation pointed to Jalyn Lazare, a 20-year-old from St. Martinville, as the individual responsible for Cyprian's death. Lazare was subsequently taken into custody and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
Following his arrest, Jalyn Lazare was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting of Elzy Cyprian. The case is now proceeding through the legal system. At present, Lazare is awaiting trial to face the charges brought against him for his alleged role in the death of Elzy Cyprian. The community was left to mourn the loss of a young man, as another life was claimed by gun violence in the city, one of eighteen homicides recorded in Lafayette in 2024.
