Witnesses told investigators that the suspected shooter ran from the area on foot after the gunfire. Officers established a perimeter south of Wheatland Road and west of South Main Street as the search moved away from the bowling alley and into the surrounding area. Duncanville police said their Drone as First Responder program helped locate the suspect in an open field west of the 900 block of South Main Street. Officers then moved in and arrested him. Police also recovered what they believed to be the weapon used in the shooting near the area where the suspect was taken into custody.
The suspect was identified by police as Torry Ray Smith, 29, of Tyler, Texas. He was booked on a pending murder charge, and authorities said additional charges could follow because another person was shot and injured during the same incident. Reports placed Smith in custody at the Tri-City Regional Jail and later noted Dallas County jail records connected him to the case. Police described the shooting as an isolated incident and said there was no ongoing threat to the public.
