On May 20, 1997, 27-year-old Lonnie Gaston was fatally shot while standing outside his residence on NE 26th Avenue in Portland, Oregon. An older blue Ford sedan approached, and as Gaston attempted to flee, the driver—an African-American male described as heavyset, around 5'9", and with a mustache—opened fire, striking Gaston multiple times.
