On January 1, 2024, around 3:30 a.m., the Lafayette Police Department responded to reports of shots fired in the 800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Lafayette, Louisiana. Upon arrival, officers found a victim, later identified as 35-year-old Brian Amune of Lafayette, lying in the roadway with apparent gunshot wounds. Despite immediate response, Amune was pronounced dead at the scene.
