In the spring of 2017, the life of Ray Allen Cudges, a 42-year-old Black male from Duson, Louisiana, was tragically cut short. On the morning of Tuesday, April 25th, at approximately 9:30 a.m., an incident of gun violence unfolded in the 400 block of East Pinhook Road in Lafayette. When Lafayette Police Department officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Cudges had sustained fatal injuries.
The investigation into the shooting swiftly led authorities to a suspect.
Through a collaborative effort involving the Lafayette Police Department, the U.S. Marshal's Task Force, and the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff's Office, a person of interest was identified. The day after the shooting, on Wednesday, April 26th, law enforcement located and apprehended the suspect at a motel on Highway 26 in the nearby city of Jennings.
The individual taken into custody was identified as 27-year-old Quinton Benjamin. Following his arrest, Benjamin faced serious charges in connection with the death of Ray Cudges. He was charged with second-degree murder and felony possession of a firearm. The swift arrest brought a suspect before the justice system to answer for the untimely death of Ray Allen Cudges.
