In the late summer of 2022, the life of 27-year-old Mickeal James Arvie was tragically cut short in Lafayette, Louisiana. On the evening of September 20th, police were called to the 400 block of Marigold Loop, a residential street less than a mile from Debaillon Park. There, they discovered Arvie inside his vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate aid rendered by the officers and the arrival of emergency personnel, his injuries proved to be fatal, and he died at the
scene.
The investigation into the shooting death of the Opelousas man quickly pointed to a suspect. Less than a week after Arvie was killed, a 17-year-old male from Lafayette turned himself in to the authorities. The juvenile was subsequently arrested and taken to the Lafayette Juvenile Detention Center. He was booked on a juvenile warrant for the charge of first-degree murder in connection with the death of Mickeal James Arvie. The motive and the circumstances leading up to the fatal encounter have not been publicly detailed.
