A quiet evening in Baton Rouge turned tragic on Thursday, May 23, 2024, ending the life of a young man with a promising future. Dauntre Leeon Alvis, a 26-year-old male, was discovered in his vehicle on North Harrell's Ferry Road, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The Baton Rouge Police Department responded to the scene late that night, finding Alvis alone in his car which was located outside of a FedEx building.
Emergency services transported him to a nearby hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.
Affectionately known as 'Noosce' to his loved ones, Alvis was a graduate of East St. John High School's class of 2016. He had pursued a career in healthcare, earning his LPN designation from Compass and was employed at Pine in Baton Rouge. His death left a void in the lives of his mother, grandmother, siblings, and a wide circle of family and friends who remembered him as a cherished member of their community.
The investigation into Alvis's death was immediately launched by the Baton Rouge Police Department's detectives. At the time of the initial reports, the circumstances leading up to the shooting remained unclear. It was not known who made the 911 call that alerted authorities to the incident.
