In the summer of 2024, a young man's life was cut short in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, following a dispute that escalated to fatal violence. Sarantis Thomas, a 22-year-old male, was shot and killed on June 6, 2024, in the parking lot of an apartment complex located at 1919 Boulevard de Province. The incident, which occurred around 1:30 p.m., left Thomas with gunshot wounds from which he succumbed at the scene.
Initial investigations by the Baton Rouge Police Homicide Detectives pointed to an
argument as the precursor to the deadly shooting. While Thomas did not reside at the apartment complex, the suspected shooter was believed to be a resident. The investigation quickly led to arrests in the case. A teenager was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder for the shooting of Thomas.
Further investigation revealed that the teenager allegedly did not act alone in the aftermath of the crime. His mother, D'ana Broadway, was also arrested and faces charges of being an accessory after the fact to second-degree murder. According to reports, it is believed that Broadway assisted her son in fleeing the scene following the shooting. The argument that led to the fatal encounter reportedly began over the phone, after which Thomas drove to the apartment complex where the confrontation turned physical and ultimately deadly.
