A loving husband, father, son, and brother, Deandre Darnell Duncan, Sr. was 37 years old when his life was cut short in his hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. On the evening of December 10, 2022, the Black man became involved in a verbal argument. The dispute escalated, and around 5:50 p.m. in the 8800 block of Edwin Street, Duncan was shot. Though emergency services were called, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Baton Rouge Police Department detectives immediately began a
homicide investigation. Their work led them to identify 31-year-old Christopher Davis as the primary suspect, with investigators concluding that the fatal shooting stemmed from the argument between the two men. With the help of the U.S. Marshal's Task Force, police located and arrested Davis on January 3, 2023. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.
The case took a bizarre turn two years later. Davis was being housed at the East Carroll Parish detention center when, on Friday, January 24, 2025, deputies transported him to Baton Rouge. Dressed in civilian clothes, Davis was mistakenly dropped off at a Greyhound bus station with a group of inmates who had completed their sentences. After East Carroll authorities realized their error and alerted the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, a multi-agency search began. Davis was recaptured just before 11 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2025. At the time of his erroneous release, his murder trial was scheduled for March of that year.
As the legal proceedings moved forward, another violent incident directly impacted the case. A person who was scheduled to testify as a witness in Christopher Davis's murder trial was shot and injured in a separate incident on Corlett Drive. Following the shooting of the witness, the case against Davis remained pending as of the latest reports in August 2026.
