In the quiet hours of a Sunday morning in Louisville, Kentucky, tragedy struck the Taylor Berry neighborhood, leaving a community in shock and a family grieving an immeasurable loss. Paulette M. Ray, a 63-year-old Caucasian female, was found shot to death on January 8, 2023, in the 1400 block of Sale Avenue. The Louisville Metro Police Department responded to reports of a shooting just after midnight and discovered Ms.
Ray at the scene, where she was pronounced dead from her injuries.
The investigation into her death led authorities to identify a suspect. In a significant development, 34-year-old Derek Fulleord of Louisville was arrested and charged with the murder of Paulette Ray. At the time of the incident, police officers had observed a vehicle leaving the area of the shooting. When they attempted to stop the driver, the vehicle fled and ultimately crashed into a nearby laundromat on Southgate Avenue. While it was initially unclear if the driver was connected to the shooting, the subsequent investigation led to Fulleord's arrest on a murder warrant.
Fulleord was taken into custody following a separate incident where he was stopped for speeding. During this stop, officers found a half-empty bottle of vodka and suspected narcotics in his vehicle.
