On May 10, 2020, police responded to a shooting call around 12:45 p.m. in the 5300 block of Halsey Court in the Iroquois neighborhood. Arriving at the scene, officers discovered Ms. Blakemore and a man, later identified as 32-year-old Brandon Gibbs, both suffering from gunshot wounds.

Blakemore was pronounced dead at the scene just after 1 p.m., having sustained a single gunshot wound. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office officially ruled her death a homicide. Mr. Gibbs was also found to have been shot multiple times and was also pronounced dead at the scene. The Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit is actively investigating the double homicide.
