In Louisville, Kentucky, a 25-year-old Black male named Eric Steven King Jr. tragically lost his life on March 25, 2023. On that Saturday evening, just before 5 p.m., police responded to a shooting on North 38th Street in the Shawnee neighborhood. Upon arrival, they discovered that King and his fiancée, Haley Meadors, had both been shot.
Both King and Meadors were rushed to the hospital for their injuries, but sadly, neither survived. Their deaths were ruled a double homicide.
King was known for his love of basketball, a game he played all over Kentucky, and for his ever-present smile. He was a member of the Portland Memorial Baptist Church but was known to visit other churches as well.
He left behind two children, Amari and Aria King. The Louisville Metro Police Department is investigating the double homicide. As of late 2023, the case remained an open investigation, and no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting. Authorities have encouraged anyone with information to come forward and contact their anonymous tip line.
