In the autumn of 2014, the life of 25-year-old Terron Eugene Johnson, a male from Louisville, Kentucky, was tragically cut short. On the afternoon of Tuesday, October 28, Johnson was discovered inside a vehicle on Garland Avenue, in the city's west end, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to University Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead shortly after four o'clock.
A graduate of Waggener High School and a member of Canaan Missionary Christian Church, Johnson was a father to a daughter and was engaged to be married.
The investigation into Johnson's death quickly pointed to a suspect. Witnesses at the scene identified 27-year-old Jessie R. Smith as being involved. Surveillance footage from the area captured a vehicle driven by Smith at the location just moments before the sound of gunfire erupted. Further investigation revealed that several phone calls were exchanged between Smith and Johnson in the time leading up to the shooting, suggesting they knew each other and that the incident may have stemmed from a dispute.
Following the shooting, witnesses reported seeing Smith going through Johnson's pockets before fleeing the scene. This act led to an additional charge of first-degree robbery. Based on the witness statements, surveillance video, and phone records, Louisville Metro Police arrested Jessie R. Smith on the morning of Wednesday, November 5, 2014. He was subsequently charged with murder and first-degree robbery in connection with the death of Terron Johnson.
