In the early hours of a Thursday morning in Louisville, Kentucky, a violent confrontation cut short the life of 24-year-old Miguel 'Mickey' Macias. On July 16, 2015, at the Mallgate Apartments in St. Matthews, what began as a gathering among acquaintances descended into a fatal robbery. Just before 2:30 a.m., an argument broke out, escalating quickly and tragically. Despite his efforts to defend himself during the robbery, Macias was shot and killed.
Witnesses reported hearing the bickering and then the sound of gunshots, a grim end to what had been a social evening of listening to music and getting tattoos just hours earlier.
When St. Matthews Police arrived at the chaotic scene, they found one man dead from a gunshot wound and another individual injured from a stabbing. The investigation that followed led to the arrests of three young men in connection with the murder of Miguel Macias. Police apprehended 19-year-old Austin Priddy, 19-year-old Cameron Tussey, and 20-year-old Andrew McAllister. Priddy was subsequently charged with murder, robbery, and tampering with physical evidence.
The legal proceedings unfolded in the years that followed. In a notable development, court records from 2017 show that Carmon Tussey, one of the three individuals charged, was acquitted of all charges related to the case, which included complicity to murder, complicity to robbery, and complicity to tampering with physical evidence. Miguel Macias, who was born in Maine and worked for a moving company, was remembered by his loved ones as a beautiful spirit. He was survived by his mother, siblings, and a loving extended family.
