In the early morning hours of October 22, 2023, in the Taylor Berry neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, 45-year-old Crystal Lynn Fultz was shot and killed. Police responded to a call about a shooting on Berry Boulevard shortly after midnight and discovered both Fultz and a man with gunshot wounds. Both individuals were transported to the University of Louisville Hospital, where Fultz ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
The male victim sustained only minor injuries.
Described by her family as a loving mother and grandmother who was family-oriented and full of life, Crystal's death came as a shock. She was known for her beautiful soul and for never meeting a stranger. Her family remembers her as a character who was always making them laugh and who knew just what to say to make them feel better. She enjoyed being outdoors, playing BINGO, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
In the wake of the shooting, police arrested 47-year-old Thomas Drescher at the scene. Drescher was subsequently charged with three counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Fultz's family revealed that she had been in a long-term, tumultuous on-again, off-again relationship with Drescher, who has a history of domestic violence charges. While Drescher has not been formally charged in connection with Fultz's death, court records indicate that a gun in his pocket discharged at the same time she was killed.
The LMPD Homicide Unit is actively investigating the shooting. Fultz's family, who believe Drescher is responsible for her death, has publicly called for justice. They feel that her death may be dismissed as an accidental discharge and are advocating for a more thorough investigation. A GoFundMe campaign was established to assist with her funeral expenses. Crystal Fultz is survived by her two children and three grandchildren.
