In January of 1990, the life of 14-year-old Bridgett Allen, a young female, was tragically cut short in Louisville, Kentucky. According to Bridgett's diary, she and her friend, 14-year-old Sherry Wilson, had been acquainted with Philip E. Cloftton for some time. It appears the girls were lured and groomed by Cloftton, who had previously supplied them with drugs and alcohol. The two teenagers visited his apartment on January 20, 1990.
Investigators believe that it was on the following day, upon their return to the apartment, that both Bridgett and Sherry were murdered.
The case took a significant turn due to the courageous actions of another young girl who managed to escape from Cloftton and his accomplice, James Ray Cable. Her testimony was crucial in the investigation and subsequent convictions. The two men were found guilty of the abductions, rapes, and murders of both Bridgett Allen and Sherry Wilson.
For their heinous crimes, both Philip E. Cloftton and James Ray Cable were convicted and sentenced to life in prison. Cable, who was also being investigated for other murders, died in prison in 2013 while awaiting another trial. His girlfriend had initially provided a false alibi for him. Cloftton was sentenced to life plus 300 years without the possibility of parole.
