In the late afternoon of July 29, 2020, a shooting shattered the calm of the Shelby Park neighborhood in Louisville, Kentucky. The incident, which occurred in the 700 block of East Kentucky Street, left 29-year-old Dwight Antowon Lacey with gunshot wounds. Emergency services responded to the scene and transported him to University Hospital. Initial reports from the Louisville Metro Police Department suggested that his injuries were not life-threatening.
Tragically, Lacey’s condition
took a turn for the worse while at the hospital, and he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed his identity and the cause of death. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement officials stated that they had not identified any suspects and appealed to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest.
Dwight Lacey was survived by his son, Isiah Lacey, as well as his parents and grandparents. To date, there have been no publicly announced arrests or naming of suspects in connection with his death. The case remains an open investigation, leaving his family and community searching for answers.
