In the late hours of a Springfield, Massachusetts day, a life was tragically cut short. JaTon G. Pearson, a 29-year-old Black/African American man, was killed by gun violence on June 11, 2023. A lifelong resident of Springfield, he was known affectionately as "Pooh" or "Hood Boss" to his friends and family.
Born and educated in the city he called home, JaTon attended Central High School and later earned his GED.
He was on the cusp of a new chapter in his life, enrolled as a student at Sheet Metal Local 63. He was scheduled to graduate on June 27, 2023, with a certification in sheet metal fabrication. He was already applying his skills, working at the Carl Fisher Company in Springfield. Beyond his professional aspirations, JaTon had a passion for motorcycles, enjoyed fishing, and spent time playing his Xbox.
His sudden death left a void in the lives of many. He is survived by his parents, Fred Pearson and Alicia Pearson, and a large, close-knit family that included four brothers and two sisters. He was a loving father to five children: L'yannie, Kendal, Hailey, Jia, and his son, Jeremiah Rivera. He was also a stepfather to three daughters, Jalexis Ortiz, Jenalise Lebron, and Alei'lah Velez. He shared his life with his fiancée, Veronica Vila.
