In the late hours of a spring evening in Springfield, Massachusetts, the life of a young man was tragically cut short. Derieke Walker, a 22-year-old Black / African American male, was fatally shot inside an apartment building on Worthington Street on June 3, 2017. The incident occurred just after 11:00 PM, prompting a response from Springfield police who arrived at the scene to investigate reports of gunfire. Walker was identified as the victim by the Hampden District Attorney's office.
