In the evening hours of August 27, 2019, Heriberto Hernandez, a 55-year-old Hispanic male from Springfield, Massachusetts, was found suffering from a gunshot wound at the intersection of Fisk and Abbe Avenues. The discovery was made by Springfield Police Department officers who responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 6:05 p.m. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and Hernandez was quickly transported to Baystate Medical Center for treatment of his life-threatening
injuries.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Heriberto Hernandez succumbed to his injuries and passed away several hours after the shooting. His death was subsequently ruled a homicide, prompting a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
