John Rivera, a 29-year-old Hispanic man, was fatally shot in Springfield, Massachusetts, in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 20, 2022. The incident occurred at approximately 1:45 a.m. in the 0-100 block of Longhill Street. First responders transported Rivera to Baystate Medical Center, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to identify a suspect in the case.
Three days after the incident, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Ricky Brown, 28, of West Springfield. Brown managed to evade capture for several months following the shooting.
On Wednesday, March 22, 2023, members of the Springfield Police Department located and arrested Ricky Brown. He is facing multiple charges in connection with the death of John Rivera, including carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a gun without a license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and a firearm violation with a prior violent drug charge.
