On April 20, 2023, 43-year-old Michael Dewayne "Mikey" Shoffner was found deceased in the middle of Dexter Street, a residential area approximately one mile east of Riverside Park in Indianapolis. Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) discovered that he had sustained at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
