In the early morning hours of July 30, 2023, tragedy struck in Gary, Indiana, when 24-year-old Ja’Markis Hackett was killed in a fatal shooting. Responding to reports of multiple gunshots around 6:22 a.m. in the 1400-1500 block of Jackson Street, police discovered a grim scene.
