On July 30, 2023, Ja’Markis Hackett, a 24-year-old resident of Gary, Indiana, was fatally shot along with another man, Jaquamold White, also 24 and from Gary. The incident occurred early Sunday morning around 6:22 AM in the area of the 1400-1500 block of Jackson Street in Gary.
