In the summer of 2016, a resident of Gary, Indiana, Lafayette Watters, a 25-year-old Black / African American male, tragically lost his life on July 25th. His death, caused by multiple gunshot wounds, was quickly determined to be a homicide by authorities, adding to the growing concerns about violent crime within the community.
