On August 31, 2023, a fatal shooting occurred at a Speedway gas station located at the intersection of East 10th Street and North Mitthoefer Road on the far east side of Indianapolis. The victim, identified as 48-year-old Robert Lee Jones, was found suffering from gunshot wounds outside the gas station entrance. Police received the call shortly before 3 p.m. and upon arrival, officers found Jones in critical condition. He was transported to the hospital but did not survive his injuries.
