On the afternoon of Thursday, August 31, 2023, a dispute at a Speedway gas station on the far east side of Indianapolis turned fatal, ending the life of 48-year-old Robert Lee Jones. A White male, Jones was shot outside the entrance of the gas station, located at the intersection of East 10th Street and North Mitthoefer Road. The incident unfolded shortly before 3 p.m., prompting a swift response from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
Upon their arrival, officers
discovered Robert Jones with critical gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Homicide detectives were called to the scene to lead the investigation into the shooting.
