On September 7, 2023, a fatal shooting occurred in Lawrence, Indiana, resulting in the death of 17-year-old Mekhi Reeves. The incident took place in the 4900 block of Leone Drive, just west of 49th Street and Shadeland Avenue. Lawrence Police Department officers responded to reports of a person shot around 6:30 p.m. and found Reeves, who was driving a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot injury. The shooting caused him to lose control of the car, which subsequently crashed into a fire hydrant.
