On a Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis, what began as a business transaction ended in a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 35-year-old Kerwin Pollard. On March 6, 2022, Pollard and his fiancée were in the city to sell clothing, a venture they had advertised on the online marketplace OfferUp. They had arranged to meet with potential buyers, a decision that would have tragic consequences.
Pollard and his fiancée first met with Julius Thomas and Carlos Bryant in a restaurant parking
lot to discuss the sale. Following this initial meeting, Thomas contacted Pollard to express further interest in purchasing the clothing. Thomas and Bryant then led Pollard and his fiancée to multiple locations, eventually stopping in the 1600 block of Ingram Street. It was there that a third man, Antonio Wynn, joined them.
During the final arrangements for the sale, Pollard was shot twice in the abdomen. His fiancée was then forced out of their vehicle at gunpoint. Thomas and Bryant proceeded to steal the car, the clothing, and other items inside. Wynn fled the scene in his own vehicle. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a report of a person shot at approximately 4:15 p.m. and found Pollard with two gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into Pollard's murder led authorities to the three men. Key evidence came from Pollard's fiancée, who provided investigators with a description of the suspects' vehicle. Further incriminating information was gathered from phone numbers used to set up the sale and the activity on stolen credit cards. Julius Thomas was the first to be apprehended, followed by Carlos Bryant and then Antonio Wynn, who was already in custody on other matters when he was charged with Pollard's murder.
Following a seven-day jury trial, all three men were convicted for their roles in the robbery and murder of Kerwin Pollard. Julius Thomas received a 62-year sentence for murder, robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, armed robbery, and assisting a criminal. Carlos Bryant was sentenced to 61 years for murder, robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, and armed robbery. Antonio Wynn was sentenced to 49 years for murder, robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, and armed robbery.
