On a cold evening in Gary, Indiana, the life of a young woman was tragically cut short. Diamond Manning, a 21-year-old female, was found with fatal gunshot wounds on a sidewalk on the night of March 2, 2024. The discovery was made after authorities received a call for a welfare check at approximately 11:05 p.m. and dispatched officers to the scene at 30th and Jefferson Street.
In the days that followed, an investigation into her death began to unravel a story of a troubled relationship.
Suspicion soon fell upon Diamond's 40-year-old girlfriend, Leveda Boyd. Witnesses reported that the couple had been experiencing 'ongoing relationship issues.' Evidence gathered by investigators, including surveillance footage and license plate reader data, tracked Boyd's white Chevy Equinox near the location where Diamond's body was discovered. This contradicted Boyd's initial statements to the police, where she claimed to have last seen Diamond at her home earlier that evening.
Further investigation revealed that just before Diamond's body was found, a relative who had dropped her off at home noticed Boyd's vehicle parked outside. The relative went inside, and a short time later, Diamond was gone. Phone records and security camera footage placed Boyd's car heading towards the scene of the crime even before a final text message was sent from Diamond's phone, which was not found with her body. Authorities believe Boyd took the phone in an attempt to mislead investigators. Leveda Boyd was subsequently arrested and charged with murder.
