In the fading afternoon light of October 5, 2024, the life of 38-year-old Brandon Lewis, a male resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, was brought to a violent and abrupt end. The incident unfolded in a residential area on the city's near west side, in the 1200 block of North Tibbs Avenue. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched to the scene around 2:45 p.m. following reports of gunfire.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Lewis lying outside, having sustained gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate medical attention he received, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The subsequent investigation into the shooting painted a grim picture of a drug-related dispute that escalated to murder. According to Lewis's girlfriend, who was present at the time, the tragic chain of events began earlier in the day when she and Lewis encountered a man in a car. This individual, later identified as Myron King, allegedly offered them a sample of crack cocaine and instructed them to call him if they wished to purchase more. Hours passed, and when no call was made, King reportedly returned to the area, leading to a heated argument with Lewis.
The confrontation quickly turned deadly as King allegedly brandished a firearm and shot Lewis, causing him to collapse. In a final, brutal act, King is said to have fired another shot into Lewis's head as he lay on the ground before speeding away from the scene. The account provided by Lewis's girlfriend, along with surveillance footage that captured the interaction and the shooting, became crucial pieces of evidence for detectives. Investigators were able to track the phone number Lewis had been in contact with to King, further solidifying him as the primary suspect.
On October 17, 2024, law enforcement officers located the suspect's vehicle in Brownsburg and subsequently arrested Myron King near a residence in Pittsboro. During questioning, King reportedly admitted to shooting a male twice before fleeing and changing his phone number. A handgun was also recovered during a search of the Pittsboro home. Following his arrest, King was charged with murder and unlawful carrying of a handgun with a prior conviction. His initial court hearing was scheduled for October 23, 2024, marking a significant step towards bringing justice for the death of Brandon Lewis.
