On September 19, 2023, 18-year-old Marquese Simmons was fatally shot in Chicago's East Chatham neighborhood. At approximately 8:10 a.m., while walking in the 8100 block of South Ellis Avenue, a black Dodge Charger approached him. Three unidentified male suspects exited the vehicle and opened fire, striking Simmons multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the shooting, the assailants returned to the Dodge Charger and fled southbound.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the Chicago Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
Earlier that year, in April 2023, Simmons faced legal issues when he was arrested and charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle. This arrest was connected to an armed robbery involving two other juveniles in Chicago's Hermosa neighborhood.
