A late-night car crash in Macon, Georgia, on January 6, 2023, led to the discovery of a homicide. Responding to a call just after 8:30 p.m. regarding a vehicle collision in the 2800 block of Broadway, Bibb County sheriff's deputies arrived to find a car that had struck a pole and a parked truck. Inside the vehicle was 26-year-old Monqencio Deshawn Johnson, who had sustained at least one gunshot wound.
According to witnesses, shots were heard in the vicinity of Spike Street and Broadway
shortly before Johnson's vehicle was seen turning onto Broadway, where he then appeared to lose control. The initial call to authorities was reported as a car wreck. However, upon their arrival, first responders found Johnson, a male, deceased inside the car. The Bibb County Coroner's Office pronounced him dead at the scene just before 9 p.m.
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office has been investigating the shooting as a homicide. In the immediate aftermath of the incident, authorities sought information from the public to help piece together the events that led to Johnson's death. However, no information regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects has been publicly released. The case officially remains under investigation.
