In the spring of 2023, the life of Ossie Lee Turner, a 61-year-old Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire. On the evening of April 14th, Atlanta Police Department officers responded to a call of a person shot at 1060 Oak St. in the southwest part of the city. Upon their arrival around 10:15 p.m., they discovered Turner suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency services transported him to Grady Memorial Hospital, but his injuries proved to be
fatal. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, leaving a community to grapple with the sudden and violent loss. Friends and neighbors remembered him as a good man with a great sense of humor who loved his dog, his family, and his friends.
In the days that followed, a Celebration of Life Service was held for Turner at the Willie A. Watkins Historic West End Chapel in Atlanta, preceded by a public viewing. Despite the outpouring of grief and remembrance, the investigation into his death has yet to yield any arrests. The Atlanta Police Department has not released any information about potential suspects or a motive in the shooting. As of now, the case remains an open and ongoing investigation, with no individuals publicly identified or charged in connection with Ossie Lee Turner's death.
