In the early hours of June 5, 2023, a sense of unease settled over the Columbia at Mechanicsville Crossing apartments in Atlanta, Georgia. This feeling would soon turn to tragedy with the death of 28-year-old Tremaine Glasper, a father of two. Known to some as 'Bay Boy,' Glasper was ambushed and fatally shot inside his car in the apartment complex's parking lot. The incident unfolded around 2 a.m. when police responded to calls of a person shot at the Wells Street location.
Upon arrival, they discovered Glasper in his red sedan, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The car's windows and doors were shattered by the barrage of bullets, with a significant concentration of the damage on the driver's side. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Glasper's death quickly pointed to three male suspects who had reportedly approached his vehicle and opened fire. Authorities believe two of the men were the shooters, while a third acted as the getaway driver. The trio fled the scene in a black Dodge Charger that was missing its license plate. Surveillance footage from the apartment complex played a crucial role in the investigation, capturing the suspects' vehicle. Investigators determined that the suspects had arrived at the complex hours before the shooting, parking in a spot that faced the breezeway of the apartment belonging to Glasper's girlfriend.
Less than a month after the shooting, on June 29, police made their first arrest in the case. Jakobe Moody, a 20-year-old rapper known as FN DaDealer and signed to Young Thug's YSL Records, was taken into custody and charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Moody was being held in the Fulton County Jail without bond. His mother claimed it was a case of mistaken identity, stating that her son and Glasper were friends.
The investigation continued, and on September 8, a second suspect, Khalik Rayevon Jones, was arrested in Rockford, Illinois. He faces charges of murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime and was also being held in the Fulton County Jail without bond. Authorities identified the third suspect as Anthony Chavez, who remained at large. Phone records and social media reportedly linked both Jones and Chavez to the crime. The Dodge Charger used in the commission of the crime was later determined to be registered to Moody.
