On June 24, 2023, at approximately 3:09 AM, Valdosta Police Officers responded to the 500 block of North St. Augustine Road in Valdosta, Georgia, after receiving numerous 911 calls about a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found Jaylon Thomas Smith, a 21-year-old African American male and Valdosta resident, with an apparent gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of Emergency Medical Services to render aid, Jaylon Smith was pronounced deceased at the scene.
