In the late evening hours of September 1, 2023, a sense of panic shattered the typical quiet of the Connection Apartments on Stambuk Lane in Statesboro, Georgia. Responding to a call of a shooting, officers from the Statesboro Police Department and Bulloch County EMS arrived to a grim scene. There, on a stairway, they found a young man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
First responders rendered aid until he could be rushed to East Georgia Regional Medical Center, but his injuries proved to be too severe. The male, identified as 20-year-old Larry Maurice Chapman of Savannah, succumbed to his wounds at the hospital.
The investigation into the death of the young, male victim began immediately. Detectives with the Statesboro Police Department quickly identified the individual who had fired the shots. This person, along with others who were present in the apartment at the time of the shooting, was interviewed by law enforcement.
