In the small city of Bainbridge, Georgia, a grim discovery was made on the morning of October 17, 2023. The body of 19-year-old Camren Walker was found by a passerby in a vacant lot located in the 800 block of Monroe Street. An investigation was promptly launched by Bainbridge Public Safety, who soon requested the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. It was determined that Walker had died from gunshot wounds, and the case was officially ruled a homicide.
GBI agents and a crime scene specialist meticulously processed the area where Walker's body was found, collecting evidence for further analysis. An autopsy was later performed at the GBI Crime Lab in Macon to aid in the investigation. As authorities worked to piece together the events leading to the young man's death, the community was left seeking answers.
Nearly two months later, a significant development occurred in the case. On Tuesday, December 12, 2023, the GBI, in conjunction with Bainbridge Public Safety Officers, arrested 18-year-old Ebony Desean Brooks in connection with Walker's death. Brooks was taken into custody at his home on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Bainbridge following an interview with investigators.
Brooks was subsequently booked into the Decatur County Jail and is facing a series of serious charges, including malice murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. The case is still considered active and ongoing as investigators continue to follow up on additional information. Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be turned over to the South Georgia Judicial Circuit's District Attorney for prosecution.
