Oharra Reggeynaulde Thomas, a 23-year-old Black man from Bainbridge, Georgia, was killed on February 25, 2024, after what authorities described as an argument that spiraled into deadly violence at a residence in the 1400 block of Avenue A. According to investigators, the confrontation began between Thomas and his girlfriend and then widened as members of her family became involved. By about 5:50 that evening, Bainbridge Public Safety had called in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and the scene that officers found was already the end of the story for Thomas: he had been shot multiple times, and the dispute that started inside a family circle had turned fatal.
The picture that emerged from public reporting was one of a sudden domestic clash that kept intensifying instead of cooling down. Local officials said the argument grew more heated as the girlfriend’s relatives joined in, transforming a private dispute into a group confrontation. Investigators later named those relatives as Brianna Chandler, Anthony Tyrome Chandler, and Angela Balogun. The GBI said Anthony Tyrome Chandler was the one who shot Thomas multiple times. Arrests followed almost immediately. The GBI announced that Anthony Tyrome Chandler, 26, was charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Angela Balogun, 44, was charged with tampering with evidence, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Brianna Chandler, 24, was charged with aggravated assault and hindering the apprehension of a fugitive. All three were booked into the Decatur County Jail.
