On the evening of December 9, 2023, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace within a high-rise apartment building in Atlanta's affluent Buckhead neighborhood, leaving three men dead. Among them was 23-year-old Kingston Phazon Cook, a Black / African American male. The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office also identified the other deceased victims as 22-year-old Javier 'Cinash' Leach and 27-year-old Justin Barber.
A fourth man, who has not been publicly named, was also shot but survived his injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Initial investigations by the Atlanta Police Department suggest that the deadly encounter was not a random act of violence. Homicide detectives believe the shooting erupted from a dispute during a marijuana deal that had been arranged to take place inside one of the apartments. According to law enforcement, it appears the violence was contained to the individuals involved in the transaction, all of whom were acquainted with one another. At least two of the men present were residents of the apartment unit where the shooting occurred.
In the days following the incident, authorities indicated that they were not actively seeking any additional suspects in connection with the triple homicide. The investigation has centered on the circumstances of the drug deal that escalated to a fatal exchange of gunfire. It has not been publicly announced whether the lone survivor of the shooting will face any criminal charges related to the incident. As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been formally charged in the deaths of Kingston Cook, Javier Leach, and Justin Barber. The case officially remains under investigation by the Atlanta Police Department.
