On a Monday afternoon in January, a young man's life was tragically cut short in the parking lot of a suburban restaurant. Larry Lenere Miller Jr., a 24-year-old Black male, was fatally shot on January 23, 2023, outside a Taco Mac on Cobb Parkway in Cobb County, a part of the metro Atlanta area. He was on his lunch break with a co-worker when the incident occurred.
The events unfolded around 12:15 p.m.
while Miller, known to his loved ones as 'Tunck,' was sitting in a car with his colleague, Peter Lampley. For reasons that remain unclear, Lampley allegedly began shooting at Miller inside the vehicle. Miller attempted to flee his attacker, but Lampley reportedly pursued him, continuing to fire. Tragically, Miller's attempt to find safety inside the restaurant was thwarted as the door was locked. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses at the scene reported hearing multiple gunshots. One witness recounted seeing Lampley chase Miller with his pants down. In the aftermath of the shooting, Lampley was taken into custody by the Cobb County Police Department and subsequently charged with Miller's murder. He was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center and held without bond.
Larry Miller was the father of a one-year-old daughter. His grandmother, Meta Edwards, expressed her profound grief and confusion over the violent act, questioning what could have motivated a co-worker to take her grandson's life.
